What a wonderful time we had with Bp. Skilton as we blessed multiple cadets as they celebrated receiving their rings. The blessing that Bp. Skilton uses was written by Bp. Edward Haynesworth one of the most gentle giants I’ve ever met. He wrote:
Almighty and everlasting God; creator of all things and giver of all life, we beseech your favor and blessing on The Citadel…that all who teach and all who learn, may dedicate themselves to the discovery of your holy purposes for your world and the well being and peace of all peoples.
Grant that the members of the class of , who now bring their rings for your blessing, may ever recognize them as signs of your vocation to each of them to serve you and their fellow human beings all the days of their life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN
Bless, O Lord, this your servant _+ and this ring which (HE)(SHE) wears, As a symbol of (HIS)(HER) dedication to you and to your people everywhere, in the name of God; +Who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen
